In 2006, Sandeep Singh was traveling to join his team which was about to leave for the World Cup which was going to be held in Africa. He was traveling by Kalka Shatabdi Express when a gunshot accidentally hit him below his waist and made him paralyzed.
This accident was very fatal as he was unable to walk and used a wheelchair for movement. The doctors said that he won’t be to walk again and his chances of playing for the Indian team were next to impossible. Sandeep Singh was paralyzed for more than 1 year and his elder brother Bikramjeet Singh was taking care of his daily needs.
Sandeep Singh loved the game and was determined that he would play hockey. So, he decided that he would recover from his condition and started his treatment. He went to the Netherlands for recovery and after 1 year he came back stronger.
After recovery, he returned to the Indian National Hockey team and joined the Indian Squad for the 2010 Hockey World Cup. There he performed so well that he became the top scorer of the Indian Squad by scoring 4 goals in the tournament.
